BT Digital

Network Communication Systems (NCS) ECHO - Digital Router Battery Backup Device (BT Digital upgrade)

Background

Many TEC customers are focusing on their plans for the Digital Transition (BT Digital Upgrade), in particular the demise of Analogue Protocols in favour of new IP communication. However, there is another issue that is of equal importance and therefore requires the necessary consideration.

The Challenge

The transition to digital will include a form of digital router or modem, such as the BT Hub. The scheme equipment or dispersed alarm device will now connect to this router rather than a telephone socket in the wall. The router or modem will be powered by a unit plugged into the mains electricity socket.
The key issue is that in the occasion of a power cut to site, the router will fail, and so will any subsequent alarm calls. There may be a secondary path, as there is in the NCS Universal Digital Composer, UDC, via 4G, however there is still risk with the cellular network as it can be affected by several external factors outside of the TEC provider’s control.
Some Telecom providers offer a partial solution, such as BT, who have confirmed that their BT Hub2 Modem will have battery backup of one hour, although this does match the battery backup of schemes that have typically eight hours. On the surface the scheme will appear to be working correctly, meaning service users will be unaware that their call cannot be answered. This is unacceptable.

The Solution

NCS are launching their ECHO device to mitigate the issue (BT Digital Upgrade).

ECHO is a self-contained device with an internal power unit that will enable a digital router or modem to stay operational for more than eight hours. ECHO has multiple outputs so will cater for almost any manufacturer’s digital router.

NCS Managing Director, Mr Paul Bennett, commented ‘We at NCS are known for bringing to market effective system solutions with full consideration of the issues our customers are facing. ECHO is a clear example of how NCS have created a holistic solution for the Digital Transition. Together with the UDC, NCS is a clear partner of choice to guide you through the Digital Transition. (BT Digital Upgrade)’

ECHO has a clear status display and does not require an electrician to install, although there is the option to install with the UDC as an IP bundle.

ECHO is available now, for you to consider as part of your transition plans.
